RARELY DOES THE OPPORTUNITY to design an entire business present itself. But I was aware during the very first conversation I had with Miguel Zabludovsky in August of 2005 that designing SlateNYC was going to be just such an opportunity.
...
Miguel had a deep, personal dissatisfaction with existing dry cleaning businesses. Your average neighborhood dry cleaner seemed completely unaware of fashion, the environment or even the fact that the clothes that they just pressed into stiff, perc-scented boards were supposed to be worn against real, naked skin.
...
He called me to share this vision and for four years now we have been reinventing the business into something that is fashionable, affordable, eco-friendly, safe, hassle-free, and even giftable. And we have expanded the vision to all things wardrobe related -- travel, moving, alterations, weddings, closets, bedding and now, home cleaning (with coordinated wardrobe cleaning).
...
The result: Permission to get dirty.
